After 17 years with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Harold (“Bud”) Newton, Jr., President of the Newton Engineering Group, P.C., left government to pursue pri development. The private sector provided a challenging opportunity to solve traffic, surveying, and land development problems in a timely, cost-effective manner. The Newton Engineering Group originated on October 1, 1990 as a Professional Traffic, Surveying and Land Development Firm. Since then, we have reorganized as a Professional Corporation with a team of highly capable professionals with the breadth and depth of experience offering a full range of Professional Surveying and Civil Engineering Services to our Clients.

Supervise a staff of up to 120 employees. These employees were employed in professional, technical, managerial, clerical, maintenance and trade positions. Authority included interviewing and recommending for hiring, job assignments, progressive discipline up to the suspension level, and payroll and expense authorizations. I was primarily supervised by Department Regulations and Policies, and by an Assistant District Engineer, who established District goals. I set the goals and objectives of various work groups and assigned personnel and resources to accomplish them. Various positions involved extensive dealings with elected and appointed government officials, developers, and citizen groups to mitigate transportation capacity, and safety and maintenance problems.
